¥ biography

A graduate of the famed Berklee College of music in Boston, Jun Miyake began his career as a jazz musician.
His musical artistry uniquely fills a blind spot in modern music, putting him in great demand as a composer of music using in commercials. To date he has released over 2,000 compositions including the Clio, Cannes International Advertising and Film Festivals and the Multi-media Grand Prix.

In addition to composing for television and film, Jun has been a very influential musician/trumpeter in and around the Tokyo music scene, has released thirteen albums as an eccentric artist, appeared as a guest soloist on Jean-Michel Jarre's "Revolutions"and Peter Scherer's "Very Neon Pet" and served as producer for numerous artists.

His album "Entropathy", which he co-produced with Hal Willner, received very favorable response including a review in Slakk which gushed : "like reading Thomas Pynchon with your ears...Beside this, John Cage's emanicaption of noise sounds like a polite little art-school exercise in smugness".
Other albums include "Innocent Bossa" co-produced with Arto Lindsay and "angels rondo" which features works written for noted artist Takayuki Terakado's latest exhibition in Japan.

Jun's feature film credits include Katsuhiro Ohtomo's "Memories/Stink Bomb" Youjiro Takita's "Itoshi no Half Moon", Kensaku Watanabe's "The Story of PuPu" and Taishi Muramoto's " Mask de 41".

¥ About JUN & "ENTROPATHY" by Hal Willner

About three years ago, I received a tape of Jun Miyake's music through a mutual friend.
The tape knocked me out ; in less than an hour I heard almost every type of music on the earth pass by, in a consistent way , by an artist who was obviously in control of the proceedings. Jun has an incredible understanding and command of all musical languages unlike anyone that I ever encountered ; and in my musical travels, that is quite a fea. There is also a lunacy present, which never got in the way of the overall vision. I wanted to work with this guy !

The album takes the listener on a very unique journey always guided by Jun's unique yet familliar arrangements and his trumpet playing which shows up at the perfect moments. From the Caribbian, island vibe of "Ca fait Longtemps", the Rudy Vallee feel of "Building Man", and the qOrson Welles Meets Zr world of "Crime Passionel", this is a magical audio movie that strongly holds together as one piece, while taking one through a surreal history of music.

In my own work I have taken the strong catalogues of Thelonious Monk, Nino Rota, Kurt Weil, Walt Disney and others, using artists incliding Tom Waits, Sun Ra, and Gil Evans, Keith Richards and Leonard Cohen, interpreting the music in my lifelong pursuit in finding where these personalities meet. In Miyake we find all of this in one person really.
His music is sophisticated but not hi-brow and always beautiful while keeping a sense og humor.
